5 Tips To Help You Prepare For Your Branding Photoshoot

I’m not going to lie planning for a Branding Photoshoot can be a little overwhelming but it doesn’t have to be with the proper planning. When my clients come to me I want them to feel as prepared and confident as possible. I prepared this blog so you can rock your branding shoot and leave with exactly what you need from your photographer plus more.

“Fail to plan, you plan to fail.”

  1. Create a game plan with your photographer. You and the photographer should be on the same page when it comes to the vision and what’s needed for the shoot. Examples of a game plan include the mood and purpose of the photoshoot, what’s needed, location(s), time, and any additional information you two may need in order to execute the plan effectively and efficiently.

  2. Attire. What you wear is going to depend on the purpose of the photoshoot, your body type, and location. If you’re shooting indoors on a solid background you’re pretty much safe to wear any color and pattern of your choice. However, if you’re shooting outdoors or on location were the background is not a solid color then you may want to discuss with your photographer what colors and patterns are okay for that particular location. Something else to keep in mind is to make sure your clothes fit appropriately. If your clothes don’t fit appropriately I advise you to fix those things before your appointment. It is important that you do not prepare your clothes for your photoshoot at the last minute. The sooner you plan the better. Along with proper fitting be sure to have the proper undergarments; spanx, bras, underwear, etc. If you need help with these things talk to your photographer about stylist referrals.

  3. Grooming (Hair, Makeup, Nails, Etc). Be sure to schedule your grooming appointments in advance so you’re not scrambling to find someone to fit you into their schedule. I recommend that you get your hair styled the day before your photoshoot and if you can be the first person in your makeup artist chair, DO IT! Scheduling early in the day is key, I say that because people tend to run late; both customers and service providers. The earlier your appointment you’re less likely to get caught in the midst of everyone else running behind. Oh and if you’re thinking about not getting makeup I highly recommend it. Find a makeup artist who can do a natural beat to keep you feeling like yourself but still professionally ready for a photoshoot. Do you think Beyoncé and Oprah are showing up to photoshoots without makeup? I highly doubt it. Get your makeup done. You’ll thank me later. Side note: if you ever need your nails done and you were unable to make it to the nail tech, visit your local Walgreens or CVS Store to purchase a pack of press ons. Trust and believe they are life savers.

  4. Props. Bringing props to your photoshoot will help bring your vision to life and it will add personality and personalization to your photoshoot. My favorite props are industry related props. Industry related props are props specifically related to your career or what you’re branding. For example, if you’re a speaker then it would be a great idea to bring a microphone. If you are a makeup artist it would be ideal to bring your caboodle and makeup brushes. If you’re an author you should bring a notebook and of course your book. Other props can include flowers, laptop, iPad, cellphone, purse, sunglasses. Again, your props are going to depend on your industry.

  5. Bring A Friend. Bring a friend to help you relax, cheer you on, assist you with clothes, and to snap those behind the scene photos and videos. Your friends should help bring out the best in you and help you to feel comfortable.

The better prepared you are the better you’ll feel. If you feel good, it will radiate through your photoshoot! It’s all about putting your best foot forward to make sure that you are presenting your brand in the best way possible and that starts the way you plan and prepare.
