Branding For Beginners
You are a business owner, but you are also a brand! If you haven’t clearly defined and executed your branding, you may be sending the wrong message. In the digital world we live in, your branding must be heavily focused on your online platforms—your website, social media, email marketing, etc. Below are a few branding tips for beginners.
What Is Branding?
Branding is who your business is, what differentiates you from the competition, and the look and feel you want to convey to your consumers. It’s how you distinguish yourself.
It includes determining things such as your company colors, but also the visual message you send when someone visits your website.
What is your website saying? Are You…
Luxe?
Sporty?
Budget-friendly?
Family-friendly?
High-energy?
Health Oriented?
Christian Focused?
Gender Focused?
Even if you target a diverse range of demographics, there is a way to brand that speaks to almost everyone you aim to reach!
Why Do I Need Branding?
Competition has never been more fierce! You aren’t just competing with local businesses, but nationwide and global businesses too. So, you must visually connect and engage with strategic branding.
Both first-time website visitors and returning visitors are exploring their options. It’s not that they aren’t loyal, they want to see what else is out there. Kind of like when you shop, right?
With strategic and intentional branding, you will engage more with your targeted demographic. Certainly, more than businesses who haven’t prioritized branding!
How Do I Create My Brand?
In the digital world, you have fewer than 3 seconds to make an impression. That’s about as long as it took to read this sentence!
That’s not long enough to read much, but it is long enough to visually absorb images, graphics, colors, design, and page layout. So, first define who your brand is, then get to work on creating content that connects.
Can I Create My Own Branded Content?
Yes, but don’t go it alone. What I mean by this is that you must invest in the right training and tools. By all means, if it’s in the budget, hire a professional. But you can do it yourself if you commit to learning.
For example, our smartphones have advanced cameras built-in. So, you don’t need to invest in a camera. However, you may need to invest in a tripod, lighting, backdrop, and props. Download My Tool Guide
Or, with a design tool such as Canva, you can create stunning social media posts from preexisting templates. No design or artistic skills are required. However, you do need to determine your brand identity so that you know what look you want to achieve.
